At the Peace Vigil on Saturday, I found myself standing among many Syrian-Americans who were there to protest the war as well. Today congress will vote on whether or not to support Obama’s plan to attack Syria. When I cast my vote for Obama’s first term as president, I hadn’t anticipated that the first African-American Commander in Chief of the armed forces, who had criticized so forcefully the policies of his predecessor, would end up duplicating the same path of war pursued by George W. Bush. It is a violent policy fraught with tragic consequence. We all live under one roof: may non-violence, compassion, and thoughtful deliberation prevail in every corner of our house. *
