The GRUBs had lost their lease, so on a Sunday afternoon, the 27th of September 2015, the Chico community of GRUB, friends and supporters, gathered to say a final goodbye to the sprawling Victorian house that had been their home through the years and to the fields they’d made green with their organic fruits and vegetables.
Over the years I’ve chronicled the progression of this full-on organic farming and “Intentional Community” that gave rise to the GRUB CSA and the GRUB Education programs. I’ve taken a total of 6 group photos. And now I was taking my last bike ride to the farm where I would gather with GRUB members and friends under the familiar walnut tree that has seen so many gatherings. There would be music and home made pizza baked in the outdoor brick oven. There would be hugs and goodbyes and some sadness, and one last group photo.
